How do I clean my Prima syringe or applicator?
1.Fill a clean sink, tub or bucket with warm, soapy water. (A specially formulated cleaning solution is available from Prima Tech)
2.Take the barrel off syringe/applicator and submerge the syringe/applicator, barrel, tubing and draw-off (if tubing and draw-offs are included with your syringe/applicator) in the warm, soapy water.
3.Allow them to soak in the warm, soapy water for several minutes, operating the syringe/applicator to ensure that all working parts have been exposed to the cleaning solution.
4.Submerge the open end of the tubing or just the syringe (if the unit is a bottle mount vaccinator that draws fluid directly from the bottle without use of a tube) in the warm, soapy water and begin pumping the syringe/applicator to draw the cleaning solution through the unit to flush the entire system. Remember that cleaning the tubing is as important as cleaning the syringe/applicator.
5.Remove all the parts from the warm, soapy water.
6.Clean sink, tub or bucket and refill with clear, clean water.
7.Submerge the open end of the tubing or just the syringe (if the unit is a bottle mount vaccinator that draws fluid directly from the bottle without use of a tube) in the clear, clean water and begin pumping the syringe/applicator to draw the clean water through the unit, removing the soapy residue. Remember that rinsing the tubing is as important as cleaning the syringe/applicator.
8.Remove all the parts from the rinse water and lay the parts on a clean towel giving them time to dry before reassembling the syringe/applicator.
9.After each cleaning, we strongly recommend that you re-lubricate the o-ring. To do this, you need to remove the barrel and place just a few drops of oil on the o-ring itself before re-inserting the piston and plunger back into the barrel. We also strongly recommend that you use only “food grade” oil (not mineral oil, or some other household oil). Do not remove the o-ring from the plunger.
10.Reassemble the syringe/applicator. More information on cleaning and lubrication of your syringe can be found in our Support section under Syringe Care.
-Cleaning instructions are also provided in each product package.
-Prima Tech offers a syringe cleaning kit which includes, cleaning solution in medicine bottles, Prima Lube “food grade” lubricating oil, cleaning brushes and pipe cleaners, a spike removal tool, and a needle wrench all in a handy bucket that can be used as a cleaning station.
For more information on Prima Lubrication Oil, read the Press Release found on our News/PR page.

Yes. Visit the Bottle Mount Vaccinators section of our Product Store for more information.

Why is my BMV “backing up” into the medicine bottle?
This could be caused by a couple of things.
(1) The bottle spike may have “cored” a piece of the rubber bung from the medicine bottle, clogging the spike. Solution: If “cored” rubber is in the spike, push it out gently with a small piece of wire. If the problem persists, you can use the Prima Spike Removal Tool to remove the spike, taking care not to lose the tiny spring and ball, and wash the spike in warm soapy water. It this still does not solve the problems, return the syringe to Prima Tech for repair or replacement.
(2) The nib assembly may be coated with medicine residue. Solution: If the nib assembly is coated with medicine residue, simply remove the barrel and soak the syringe/applicator in hot soapy water.
After soaking several hours, pump the syringe/applicator until the blockage is cleared. (Note: you may have to push a small wire or needle into the barrel at the nib in order to free up the bearing stuck in place by hardened medication.)

Why has my Pour-On applicator quit pumping?
It is very difficult to squeeze! Most probable cause is a blockage in the plunger, or a faulty Piston. Soaking the Plunger in hot water and Dawn over night, and blowing out any debris found inside Plunger may solve problem, otherwise; have customer return unit for Piston replacement, and/or further investigation.
If the handle is still easy to squeeze, it could be due to a leakage in the tubing at a connecting point. It could also be due to a faulty piston.
-
What type of lubrication oil can I use on my Prima Tech syringe?
We recommend a food manufacturing hydrolic oil that will lubricate your syringe while remaining safe for your animals.
- What are Prima Tech’s dose tolerances by product?
Our dose tolerance is set at +/- 2% for all syringes and applicators. This means that an acceptable variance for a setting of 70ml is +/-1.4ml, while an acceptable variance for a setting of 5ml is +/-.1ml and an acceptable variance for a setting of 2ml is +/-.04ml.
- How does highly viscous product effect dose accuracy if at all?
None, dose tolerances are +/- 2% regardless of viscosity.
- Are the plastic parts of my syringe/applicator resistant to chemicals?
Yes, Prima Tech uses only the highest quality plastics in its syringes and applicators. These products are proven to be the most chemically resistant plastics available, with a performance rating equivalent to or better than metal and glass.
- When working with a low dose (.5ml) adjustable syringe, how do insure that the vaccinator is primed correctly when I first start out?
Always begin by priming the vaccinator on the highest (.5ml) setting, and then dial down to the lower settings. This will insure a good prime.
- Are replacement parts available for Prima syringes and applicators?
Yes, we supply replacement barrels and o-rings which can be found in our catalog.
- Should I use the bottle spike to puncture the bottle bung?
Most users find it helpful to use a sterile knife or blade to first puncture a small hole in the bung to avoid “coring” the bung or pressing the bung into the bottle. When using a knife or blade, take special care not to make a large slice in the bung, as it will no longer allow a proper seal to the smaller and round-shaped spike, resulting in a leaky connection.
If you choose to use the spike to puncture the spike, never mount the medicine bottle on the syringe using a turning or screwing motion. This will often result in a “cored” bung and a clogged spike. Instead push the medicine bottle straight down on the spike.
- What is the warranty on my Prima syringe, applicator or other product?
We do not have a warranty on our products; we simply guarantee every customer satisfaction with everything we sell. If the customer is not satisfied with the performance of any Prima Tech product, they can return it for a replacement or for credit.
- Do I have to pay for shipping when I return an item for repairs?
Yes, but we will repair or replace your item, and return it to you at no additional charge.
